MORGAN Wesley K. Morgan is celebrating new life with Jesus.  He passed to the eternal world on Sunday, April 22, 2007. Wes fought gastric cancer for two years. He relied most on spiritual strength that he received from God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Wes and his family thank the thousands who prayed for him and encouraged him during this battle. Near the end of his illness, Wes wrote, "Surely I am one of the most fortunate men ever to have lived. I give glory and honor to Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior, for the free gift of eternal life through my acceptance of His offer of sheer grace. This led to my experiencing the abundant life just as He promised. Now, having completed my journey, I have relocated to my heavenly home." Wes was born in Winston-Salem on Sept. 8, 1952. He was student body president at Ardmore Elementary School and Mount Tabor High School. He was a Morehead Scholar at UNC-Chapel Hill. He married his high school sweetheart, Barbie, on Jan. 24, 1976. Their 31 years of marriage were blessed by many relationships, events and joys. Their daughter and son-in-law, Marissa and Daniel Joyce, live in Winston-Salem. Their son, Nate, lives at home when not in school at Johnson and Wales University in Charlotte. Wes' s cherished mother, Annie Laurie Morgan, lives in Winston-Salem. In 1976, Wes founded a company, which has evolved to be ProBenefits Inc. He practiced Christian principles while running his business and was very proud of the fine employees who have worked tirelessly to maintain the company' s success in Wes' s absence. For the last several years, the company has been managed by Gary Knight and will continue to operate under his capable leadership. The good people of College Park Baptist Church benefited from Wes' s service when he served as a deacon, Sunday school worker and organizer of various mission projects. Wes was a Christian mentor to all those who knew him and used his innate organizational skills for the benefit of countless ministries. Wes loved the fellowship of committed believers, and his family continues to be grateful for their constant and fervent prayers. We have leaned on the shoulders of many church members for the last several years and love them all. New Directions International of Burlington was an outlet for Wes' s ministry of evangelism. Wes' s ministry in Haiti provided him the opportunity to meet and serve with dear Christian brothers and sisters he loved very much. He organized funding for feeding programs, crusades, schools, pastor training, and numerous ministries. A memorial service will be held in the capital city, Port-au-Prince. A celebration of Wes' s transformation to heavenly life will be held at College Park Baptist Church at 6:30 p.m. Friday, April 27. The family will receive friends after the service in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the College Park Baptist Church Benevolence Fund (in honor of Wes Morgan) 1701 Polo Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27106. In addition, funds are being solicited to benefit a Haitian orphanage that was dear to Wes' s heart (New Directions International, 2640 Reynolda Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27106). Wes will be missed on earth, but we will see him again in heaven. He has been welcomed in the arms of Jesus with the blessed words, "Well done, my good and faithful servant." Online condolences may be made to the Morgan family at www.salemfh.com. (Salem Funeral & Cremation Services)
